Can’t we just leave Psycho alone? One of the more interesting TV concepts of next year is Bates Motel, a new A&E series about Norman Bates and his mother back when she was, you know, alive. If you’ll remember the original Psycho, Norman was driven nutty by his domineering, hateful mother Norma. After his father died, Mommy found someone new, which drove young Norman so crazy that he poisoned them both and made it look like a suicide. Bates Motel stars Freddie Highmore, probably best known as Charlie from the Tim Burton Willy Wonka remake, as young Norman and Vera Farmiga as his maniacal mother. Premieres in March.
