The Philips Saeco Xelsis Fingerprint ID Espresso Machine is exactly what it sounds like: A coffee-maker that requires a fingerprint to work.

Also $4000. Although to be fair, this is a really, really nice coffee machine.

Saeco is the company that pioneered the fully automatic home espresso machine in the ’80s and basically ensured being a pretentious ass had at least one crucial kitchen accessory. But this is a bit over the top, even for them.

So, why the fingerprinting? To store your coffee profile. You swipe your finger and immediately, the machine knows exactly how you want your espresso. It can store up to six different profiles, so you and everyone else in your house can store exactly what you want.

And it is fully automatic, which is a good thing because cleaning one of these things manually is a nightmare.

That said, you will have to explain to everybody you ever meet that you own a $4000 espresso machine with a fingerprint ID system. Just… don’t bring it up until someone asks, if you value not being seen as a tool.
