Woman buys iPad from gas station, does not get what she hoped for Nov 9th 2012, 17:45 Note: When buying an iPad for $200 at a gas station, there’s a decent chance you may be getting ripped off by a scammer. Shocker. NBC Dallas At a gas station in Arlington, Tex., Jalonta Freeman bought what she thought would be Apple’s newest product at a deep discount after being told by a stranger that he was selling the new iPad — which retails for $800 — for a paltry $200 sum. But when she got the product back home to open it up, she found nothing more than a mirror the approximate size of the tablet computer. “If you turn it on the back, it actually looks like an Apple iPad,” Freeman told NBC Dallas. “And when you turn it to the front, it has the prices and stuff.” Freeman reported the crime to the police but without catching the salesman’s license plate number or any other telltale information, it’s probably a lost cause. Fortunately, Freeman learned an important lesson, eloquently telling NBC, “Don’t buy nothing on the streets from nobody.” Now I’m not going to say you should never buy things from reputable gentlemen at gas stations — they’re truly the lifeblood of our economy. But maybe you should actually check out the merchandise they’re selling before you plunk down the cash. Have you even seen a heist movie, Jalonta? They don’t just take the briefcase full of money and go, “Ah, this certainly seems like it would be a briefcase full of money.
