A regulatory council in Brazil is investigating recent commercials launched by Gillette in Brazil to promote their new line of razors.
One Brazilian councilman says that over 20 consumers have filed complaints with their committee, claiming that the commercials “encourage prejudice against hairy men.”
The commercials feature women encouraging men to shave their body hair so that women will like them more.
A Gillette spokeswoman told the Associated Press that the ads are “an irreverent way to say that women prefer hairless men and that the company never meant to offend consumers.”
The ad council is currently reviewing the campaign and will make a decision on if it will be allowed to continue running within the next 30 days.
For people so covered in thick body hair that they’d complain to an ad council about their insecurities, these Brazilian sure seem to have thin skin.
