The PlayStation 4 will be unveiled to the world later tonight. Nuts, I know. So what better time to see where we’ve been than with a series of you YouTube clips that chronicle the evolution of the brand?

Each of the following is a little less than complete, unfortunately but predictably. Like the first one, for the original PlayStation; there’s no mention how it was originally supposed to be Super NES CD, but that’s a whole thing that Sony perhaps would rather not talk about. At the very least it conjures up those fond memories of the whole U R N (red)E campaign…

Next up, the PlayStation 2. Hey, remember when playing DVD movies was a huge f’n deal. There’s also another key omission; one of the main reason why the PS2 succeeded was due to its backwards compatibility, something that would be dropped with the next console. And which was not exactly the smartest of moves…

Speaking of the PlayStation 3, the following has the least to say about anything. Mostly because, I dunno, the PS3 has been somewhat of a mess? Then again, it’s perhaps for the best that Sony didn’t mention how many times the PlayStation Network has been hacked or how the Move is a blatant rip off of the Wii (which I only mention because Sony made fun of the Wii upon its debut)…

Next we have a look at the PlayStation Portable and PlayStation Vita. It comes off more like a sales pitch for the latter, which is hardly a shocker, given how badly the Vita needs customers…

And finally, a look at the games. This is something that could have easily been extended into 20 minutes, but instead they just concentrate on Gran Turismo for half of it. But at least the other highlights all the cool indie stuff that Sony has been embracing recently, which is one of the few things they’ve done right in recent memory…
