The Samsung Galaxy Camera was something I couldn’t be bothered to even look at. WiFi on a point-and-shoot camera is a great idea. A cellular modem on a point-and-shoot camera is nothing short of ridiculous. Why would I pay for data service on a gadget with limited uses?

Samsung seems to have agreed, and now the Galaxy Camera comes in a WiFi only version.

The Galaxy Camera is basically a smartphone crammed into the back of a point-and-shoot camera, which is actually a good idea. Using the back touchscreen, you can use apps like Instagram, download photo editing software to shape things in more detail, add photos to Facebook, and geotag your shots.

On the camera side, it’s honestly a bit mediocre: The tiny sensor has 16 megapixels, so expect a lot of grain, but the lens has an OK range and you won’t be worrying about memory cards, as the Galaxy Camera has 8GB of internal storage. In other words, it’s a pretty good camera, for what it is. And, hey, no more hooking up USB cables to get your photos!
